We are in the eleventh hour, dolls! I imagine you are all giving your to-do lists a once over, wrapping packages, timing out your menus, and choosing your killer Christmas/Holiday outfits. However, if you’re feeling frazzled and finding yourselves quite a bit behind, then I hope these tips help you find your way back to your pre-fest sanity.
Treat yo’self! Don’t throw off your favorite routines in favor of spinning through your house in a tizzy. Instead, carve out some time for yourself. Go to the gym, get some coffee, heck, do nothing for an hour…there’s no wrong way to prepare yourself for the day. Whatever you do, just promise me (and yourself) you’ll take a minute to contemplate how amazing you are! You deserve it!
Focus on what matters. Seriously, forget the rest. For me, Christmastime has always been about trapping your loved ones within the same four walls, getting waist deep in cheer, and cramming them full of love, joy and thousands of calories. It’s not about having the perfect table, filled with hand drawn place cards tied lovingly to glittering snowflakes. It’s about laughing so hard at that thing your aunt said that you drop cranberry relish in your glass of wine. It's certainly not about how much you spend or who gives what to whom. Christmas is about expelling the darkness of this world with the bright, shining light of joy. Learn that, and those mismatched placemats and lumpy mashed potatoes will be charming instead of maddening.
Delegate. You have an army at your disposal. Don’t be afraid to use them. It’s okay to have your kids set the table or your dad finish garnishing the mashed potatoes. The point is, when someone offers to help you, consider accepting their offer.
Let the mood set itself. Look at your house. The holiday season brings with it a sense of wonder and tranquil beauty that is unrivaled the rest of the year. Capitalize, baby! Let your decorations take center stage for once. If the theme of your house is Glittering Winter Wonderland, an understated tablescape won’t overpower your guests and will save you time better spent sampling the Hot Toddies. Conversely, if Rustically Cozy Haven is more your speed, maybe punch up that table a little to make your spread pop. Honestly if you use what you have and decorate with love, forgeddaboutit...
Enjoy yo'self! Christmas comes but once a year, darlings, so put on your snowflake earrings, dust off your favorite Christmas playlist, and shake that winter wonderland! Remember, the only person that can make Christmas stressful is you. Rise above the chow-chow and blow everyone's minds with your Christmas serenity.
